Whitaker Farm, established 2014, was founded with the desire to feed our families, our community and our soil as ethical stewards for the future.
We focus on using best practices to grow our vegetables, feeding our community year round using a combination of storage crops, climate appropriate growing and season extension tools.
You can find our produce at the Comox Valley Farmer’s Market and Cumberland Market, and our farm store.

We have so many amazing tomatoes for you to choose from in our plant sale but we really want to highlight our farm favourite: Sungold Cherry Tomatoes. These tomatoes are a low acid tomato which means extra sweet and so much flavour. I freeze all my extra whole (these plants produce so much) and make soup in the winter that I describe as eating sunshine.

This doesn’t look like much and i wish i had a before for this after but today we tackled an ongoing flooring problem. Concrete is expensive and we used gravel at one point which is particularly hard on feet when you are processing food for hours on end. This is a product called cart path from cumberland sand and gravel and is super cost effective. What a dream.

Did you know that Whitaker Farm is fully committed to paying all of our employees at minimum a living wage?
The living wage in the Comox Valley is $22.02 which is the calculated hourly wage a family needs to earn to cover basic expenses such as food, clothing, shelter, transportation and child care. The living wage calculation is based on a two-parent family with two children with each parent working full time.
Paying a living wage is beneficial for both our community and our economy so when you purchase from Whitaker Farm, know that you are making a positive impact while enjoying fresh and nutritious local produce.
When Brian and I envisioned this farm ten years ago one of our dreams was to ensure folks had meaningful employment. Given the history of farming being steeped in slavery and exploitation of labour we felt this could be a tiny way to uncouple farming from that history. We appreciate our team so much.
They are some awesome folx!
ps: the living wage for farm dogs includes more meals than we are giving them according to goose and minnow
